The great bowerbird is the largest of the bowerbird family and is 33 to 38 cm long and fawny grey in colour.
Male Great Bowerbirds sometimes steal nest decorations, which are intended to attract mates, from their rivals and use these decorations in their own nests.
The vegetation that fringes the river bank includes River Gums, freshwater mangroves, pandanus, lilac-crowned wren, reed warbler and the great bowerbird.
The island is home to endangered flora such as " Brachychiton incanus " and a variety of birdlife such as rufous night heron, little eagle, brown falcon, whimbrel, tawny frogmouth, great bowerbird and rainbow bee-eater.
Fauna found on the island include the golden bandicoot and many types of birds including the pied imperial pigeon, sulphur-crested cockatoo, brown honeyeater, white-gaped honeyeater, white-lined honeyeater, silver-crowned friarbird, mangrove golden whistler, leaden flycatcher, northern fantail, black-faced cuckoo-shrike, varied triller and the great bowerbird.
